In an architectural competition for the development of the Quarter Am Sacksdamm in Bremen, Koschany + Zimmer Architekten KZA took first place. Now the winner’s draft for a new project by Vonovia is shown in an exhibition in Bremen.
At the opening of the exhibition on August 15, KZA Managing Director Axel Koschany and planner Markus Friedrich presented the principles of the modular construction concept for a plot in Bremen’s Hemelingen district.
Affordable living space
„Houses in the green, between the old trees, oriented around a common center as a development and place of encounter,“ describes Koschany the basic idea for the approximately 80 residential units. In the apartments with two to four rooms, families, singles and the elderly will find a home – at affordable prices. 25 percent of the housing is publicly funded.
Unanimous vote of the jury
The residential project is to be built on the surface of an existing settlement. In order to develop a concept for the plot, Vonovia and the city of Bremen had invited a total of four architectural offices to the competition last year. In January, a jury evaluated the anonymous submissions. In the end, the experts unanimously voted for the design of the Essen architects.
„It is a question of creating a neighborhood that is worth living for the residents,“ emphasized the Bremen Senate Building Director, Prof. Dr. Iris Reuther, who was a member of the jury. This is precisely what the KZA draft makes possible – mainly because of its green center, which serves the newly emerging neighborhood as a space for encounters.
The exhibition can still be seen until 31 August in the foyer of the SUBV, Contrescarpe 72 in Bremen.
