What should offices consider before they introduce Building Information Modeling (BIM) as a planning method? Wolfgang Zimmer answered this question at the symposium „BIM for everyone!“ on 4 October in Dusseldorf.

In front of about 400 people, the managing partner of the KZA office talked about practical experiences with BIM in everyday working life. With him on stage was Mathias Pfeifer from the Dusseldorf office RKW Architektur +.

In their relaxed dialogue, the speakers mainly appealed to their audience to open up to the new planning method and to establish it with small steps. Despite all the initial difficulties, the introduction of BIM offered many opportunities and advantages, the speakers said.

In any case, the architect must continue to take over the central coordination of all planning participants. „The architect remains the system leader,“ emphasized Wolfgang Zimmer.

Planners, builders and politics in dialogue

The conference was hosted by the Chamber of Architects North Rhine-Westphalia (AKNW) in cooperation with the Chamber of Building Engineers and the Academy of the Chamber of Architects. They had invited planners and builders to present their positions and experiences around BIM.

At the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Dusseldorf, however, politics also had their say – after all, the event was connected with the federal state government’s digitization offensive.

A detailed report on the conference can be found on the WEBSITE OF THE AKNW (in German).
